What are the best tactics to remove antivirus soft ware?

With so many types of malicious programs and files out there its tough to decide what you sort of protection need. Do you get spyware software, or does that only block spyware? What about malware protection? How do you keep your computer and online identity safe when you don’t know what you’re up against? Lets look at the types of malicious code and programs that are present today:

  • Viruses
  • Malware
  • Trojans
  • Spyware
  • Worms
  • Adware

With all of these different types of programs trying to infect your computer you would need 6 different programs just to protect you! If your computer gets infected you will notice a significant change in performance. Generally your computer will start slowing down and freezing. You will get multiple pop-ups even when you’re not visiting a new site, or sometimes when you’re not even on the internet. If you notice that your home page has changed without your consent this is typically a sign of foul play. New toolbars in your browsers or new icons on your desktop can mean that a virus has been installed on your computer. If your computer is constantly crashing or you need to reboot on a constant basis you will need to clean up your computer of the viruses and spyware that is infecting it.

The best way to handle all these different types is to prevent them in the first place. The right software can protect your computer and keep it clean at the same time. If you get a complete antivirus protection solution with a built-in firewall you will never need to worry about any threats to your computer again.

Types of malicious software

Malware – Malware is short of malicious code and is the parent category of all computer threats. This code is used to gather information, deny or disrupt operation,  which in turn leads to exploitation and loss of privacy. Malware generally gains unauthorized access to the systems resources and will install additional services and processes to complete its tasks. The different types of malware consist of viruses, worms, scareware, crimeware, trojans, spyware, adware, and rootkits

Virus – A small program that is specifically written to alter the way that a computer fuctions without the knowledge or consent of the computer owner or user. The virus infects other computer programs to perform malicious and illegal actions, such as, editing or deleting files, and locking up computer systems. A virus must execute and replicate itself.

Worm – Worms are a self-propagating computer program that is embedded inside a file. The worm then creates a duplicate of itself, which in turn, can create even more copies of  itself as they travel through the computer network and across the internet, typically by means of email.

Trojan Horse – Trojans are imposters that purposely appear harmeless but once exectued will launch a worm or virus. Trojans also generally hide within other programs so that once the safe program is installed, the Trojan is installed as well. The premise behind a Trojan is that once its installed it can tell when you’re online and it will notify the attacker. This attacker will then essentially have full control of the users computer and can easily gain access to personal information and their files.  Unlike viruses, a Trojan will not replicate itself and you have to “invite or allow” it run on your computer by downloading or opening a file.

Spyware – Spyware is software that is hides on your computer to collect your personal information. This software will also keep track of your computer activities and report them back to the attacker. This information is then used to provide pop-ups and other unsolicited offers on your computer that closely relate to your surfing habits.

Adware – A close relative of spyware, this software downloads software to your computer to display and download advertising material to your computer. Adware generally slows down your computer and contains inappropriate material.

How to tell if your computer has been infected:

  • Your computer unexpectedly constantly crashes without warning
  • Icons for programs you did not install appear on your desktop
  • You computer has suddenly started taking longer than usual to complete tasks
  • Pop-ups appear without you surfing the internet
  • New toolbars are intalled on your web browser (Although some legitimate programs include these and you have the option to no install the toolbar)
  • Your web browser home page has changed without your permission
